In recent communication the Governor
of Hong Kong states that the United States
Consul General approached the Hong Kong
Government last year regarding the purchase
by private treaty of a suitable site for
the building of a Consulate General in
Hong Kong, and was ultimately offered
a well-situated lot of land of area
approximately 47,000 square, feet on a
75 year lease at a premium of $1,410,000
with an annual rental of $1,078.
The Consul General has now replied
that he has been instructed that his
Government "would be interested in acquiring this site" if payment can be
made under the Lend Lease Settlement
Statement of December 6th, 1945. They also
desire that the rentals for the full term
of the lease be paid now, and request
that a figure for the commuted value be furnished, together with an explanation of
how such figure has been reached.
